Miranda localizes apically, then basally in a mitotic neuroblast. Shown here is an immunofluorescence analysis of wild-type Drosophila embryonic neuroblasts stained with anti-Miranda antibodies (green) and propidium iodide (red) to visualize DNA. In early prophase, Miranda is localized at the apical cell cortex (left). As cells proceed through mitosis, Miranda is redistributed to the basal cortex (right). The neuroblasts are oriented with the apical side up. (For details, see Shen et al., p. 1837, and Schuldt et al., p. 1847.)
