Overexpression of CeHSB-1 blocks activation of the heat
shock response in Caenorhabditis elegans. Shown is an animal
that contains integrated copies of a heat shock protein
gene-lacZ fusion (hsp-16::lacZ). Following heat
treatment,
-galactosidase activity (blue) is detected in intestinal,
pharyngeal, nerve ring, and body wall muscle cells (top).
Overexpression of CeHSB-1 in body wall muscle cells with the use of an
unc-54::hsb-1 fusion results in reduced staining of these
cells while
-galactosidase activity is observed in other cell types
(bottom). (For details, see Satyal et al., p. 1962).
