Brachyury target genes in notochord development. Shown here are whole mount in situ hybridizations of Ciona intestinalis embryos stained with notochord-specific cDNAs identified in a subtractive hybridization screen to identify Brachyury targets. Misexpression of Ci-Bra induced the expression of 501 independent cDNA clones, 38 of which are expressed specifically in notochord cells. (For details, see Takahashi et al., p. 1519.)
