C. elegans POD-1 is required for polarity and cell structure in the early embryo. Shown here is an immunofluorescence analysis of a wild-type one-cell embryo stained with POD-1 antibodies (green) and DAPI to visualize the DNA (blue). POD-1 localizes asymmetrically to the anterior (left). In pod-1 embryos, POD-1 staining is absent and anterior-posterior polarity is lost (not shown). (For details, see Rappleye et al., p. 2838.)
