The E2F and DP families of heterodimeric transcription factors have a central role in the control of gene expression in a cell cycle-dependent manner. The structure of the DNA-binding domains of E2F4 (red) and DP2 (blue) bound to DNA (gray) shows that the E2F and DP proteins use the same fold and conserved residues to recognize DNA.
