Vascular remodeling defects in Notch mutants embryos. Shown here are yolk sacs from Notch 1+/- (top) and Notch 1-/- (bottom) embryos stained with antibodies to PECAM-1, a marker specific for vascular endothelial cells. In the Notch 1-/- mutant, the primary vascular plexus develops normally but fails to undergo remodeling to form the vessels of the mature yolk sac.
