Xenotransposition of the Hoxb1 gene into the posterior HoxD complex. Shown here is an in situ analysis of Hoxb1-lacZ expression in mouse embryos, with expression visualized in blue. The two images on the right show the normal expression pattern of the anterior Hoxb1 gene. The two images on the left show the expression of the Hoxb1-lacZ when targeted to the most posterior part of the HoxD complex, as depicted in the schematic. The expression pattern of the transplanted Hoxb1 is reminiscent of posterior Hoxd gene expression pattern. (For details, see Kmita et al., p. 198.)
