About the Cover

Cover Figure

Dmrt1 expression in murine testis. Shown here is a testis section from 14-day-old mouse, stained with an antibody against the DM domain protein, Dmrt1. Expression is detected in Sertoli cells and spermatogonia. Dmrt1 is a protein related to the sexual regulators Doublesex (DSX) of Drosophila and MAB-3 of C. elegans. Dmrt1 has been implicated in male gonad development in a variety of vertebrates, based on chromosomal location and expression pattern. Targeted deletion of Dmrt1 in the mouse causes multiple defects in postnatal testis differentiation. (For details, see Raymond et al., p. 2587.)
