About the Cover

Cover Figure

Nuclear compartmentalization as a mediator of chromatin remodeling. Shown here is a fluorescent in situ hybridization analysis of the localization of the human beta -globin locus in interphase T-MEL (top) or Delta 2-5 MEL (bottom) nuclei. The DNA is shown in blue, the centromeres in red, and the beta -globin locus in green. In the Delta 2-5 MEL hybrid, the beta -globin locus is found away from the centromeres, regardless of the beta -globin transcription. In contrast, the beta -globin locus is in close proximity to centromeres in T-MEL hybrids harboring a silent, closed locus. (For details, see Schübeler et al., p. 940.)
