Microtubule-severing activity is required for C. elegans meiosis. Shown here is a confocal merged image of a female meiotic spindle in metaphase. Tubulin is shown in green and the chromatin is stained with DAPI (blue). MEI-2, a protein with homology to the microtubule-severing protein katanin p80 subunit, is shown in red. MEI-2 localizes to the spindle poles and chromatin. The purple color indicates MEI-2 on the chromatin. (For details, see Srayko et al., p. 1072.)
