Cover Human Rif1, the ortholog of a yeast telomeric protein, is a DNA-damage-response protein involved in the intra-S-phase checkpoint. Shown here is an immunofluorescence analysis of irradiated human nuclei using antibodies directed against Rif1 (green) and the DNA-damage-response factor 53BP1 (red). After ionizing irradiation, Rif1 rapidly becomes associated with 53BP1 at double-strand DNA breaks. (For details, see Silverman et al., 2108.)
