About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover The geminivirus NSP (nuclear shuttle protein) interacts specifically with three leucine-rich-repeat (LRR) receptor-like-kinases (RLKs), NIK1, NIK2 and NIK3, through an 80-amino acid region that encompasses the kinase active site and A-loop. NIK1, NIK2, and NIK3 transmembrane receptor serine/threonine kinases are targeted and inhibited by the geminivirus nuclear shuttle protein. Shown here are confocal fluorescence images of Arabidopsis cauline cells stably transformed with NIK1, NIK2 and NIK3 fused to green fluorescent protein (GFP). Intense GFP fluorescence was observed at the cell surface delimitating the cell boundaries, and indicating a plasma membrane localization. (For details, see Fontes et al., p. 2545.)
