Cover Chromosomal histone H3 is phosphorylated at Thr 3 and Ser 10 during mitosis. Shown here is an immunofluoresence analysis of HeLa cells using antibodies directed against phosphorylated H3 Ser 10 (red; first column) and phosphorylated H3 Thr 3 (green; second column), and with DAPI staining (blue; fourth column) to visulaize DNA. A merged image (third column) shows partial colocalization of phospho-H3 Ser 10 and Thr 3 (yellow). From top to bottom, the HeLa cells are arranged in order of increasing cell cycle, from prophase, to prometaphase, to metaphase, and anaphase. (For details, see Dai et al., 472.)
