Cover A mutation in the zebrafish mitotic checkpoint gene separase (cease&desist, cds) results in chromosomal instability and increased epithelial tumor development after carcinogen exposure. Shown here is an immunofluorescence analysis of cds homozygous mutant embryos using antibodies directed against phosphorylated histone H3 (green) and α-tubulin (red), demonstrating profound spindle defects. Also shown are DAPI-stained diplochromosomes (blue) from a metaphase spread of cds homozygous mutant embryos, displaying characteristic chromosomal abnormalities. (For details, see Shepard et al., p. 55.)
