Cover Gravin is a scaffolding protein and cytoskeletal regulator that controls complex cell shape changes required for vetebrate gastrulation. Shown here is an immunofluorescence analysis of a COS7 cell expressing EGFP-tagged zebrafish Gravin (green), which has a membrane and subcellular localization. Actin filaments were stained with 594-phalloidin (red) and the nucleus was labeled with the DNA-binding dye DAPI (blue). Expression of Gravin in mammalian cultured cells results in increased cell flattening and dissolution of stress fibers. (For details, see Weiser et al., p. 1559.)
