Cover Drosophila Atg7 mutations disrupt starvation-induced autophagy. Shown here is a fluorescent image of larval fat body cells from a flp/FRT-generated mosaic animal, in which wild-type but not Atg7 mutant cells express a membrane-targeted red fluorescent protein, myrRFP. All cells express the autophagosomal marker GFP-Atg8 (green). Mutation of Atg7 prevents formation of GFP-positive autophagosomes in response to starvation. Nuclei are stained with DAPI (blue).
